Suggestions for this time of year.

How to grow Hellebores from seed:

This is the best time of year to get and set Hellebore from seed as they are now ripening (end of June / start of July). They are a genuinely wonderful plant, which flower early and last a very long time. When there is not much else happening in your garden, these will be growing strong and giving joy :)

Buy sowing them yourself, you will save a small fortune. Just to give an example, to buy them in a pot, they will cost approx €12 to €15 per plant, where as growing from seed works out at approx €3 per plant. OMG!

The trick is to GET FRESH SEEDS. This is NB.

A very good supplier is Ray Burke in the south of England. See his site Plant World Seeds here.

Tips for seeding seed:

You pop them in the tray, cover with a sheet of glass and put them in a shaded area until they germinate. Because they are fresh, all the seeds should germinate.

Make sure they are not touching in the tray, and water from the bottom. You want the soil to be moist but not water logged. They love rotten organic matter / manure, so you can spread this on the soil.

Definitely worth growing - So give it a go :)
